Welcome to one of our main series of articles for the “Best Food Importers” site, the no 1 world directory of food importers and distributors from all over the world. In this series of articles we shall focus on one of the most important food distribution markets, namely the European market. Even if a accurate and comprehensive total number of the companies that activate in Europe in the field of food importing and distribution is difficult to gauge, our database includes important information about hundreds of companies from a large number of countries, all of which are active in the European food distribution markets, further illustrating the lucrative dimensions of the food retailing sector in this particular region of the globe.
Food retailing being, by definition, a complex sector, our editorial endeavor shall begin with a multi-part article focused on a particular sub-sector of food retailing as a whole, namely “fruit and vegetables”. This multi-part article is intended to be a general overview on the trends that govern the interaction between multiple factors and players that determine the particularities of this economical sub-sector, including but not limited to the requirements of the European Union’s legislation and that of the individual countries from Europe that are not yet members of the EU, the attitude and demands of the best food importers of Europe, the business acumen of their chosen suppliers and, last but not least, the attitudes and preferences of the consumer itself.
We shall analyze these trends as they influence the dynamic of this particular economical sector, first noticing that this influence is not exercised by one overwhelming type of tendencies, but stems from five main type of trends: social, technological, economical, environmental and political.
Using as source a recent trend mapping study published by CBI (“Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries”) and The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands, along with our own recommendations and findings, this multi-part article will also provide advices for the prospective buyer of our best food importers database on how to best respond to these complex and modern market and consumer’s trends for the heavily regulated and highly sensitive food distribution market of the European region.
In the next installment of this multi-part article, we shall begin with the general overview of the first aforementioned type of trends in this sub-sector, namely the social trends. Make sure to check it out.
